{i dream of white}

I had a lovely dream last night...

...Miss Sophia's Room was mine.

 { I have always wished her room was mine, in all of its' dreamy whiteness}

I told my little Sophie about the dream.
    

           She said she would share.

My Sophie {LOVES} this time of year! She is always just bursting at the seams to decorate her room. This year was extra special as she just had this awesome room redo! {see it here}This  year she has a {PINK} tree that was upcycled from some {OLD} things her Mimi was getting rid of...

...she and her Mimi decorated it and it looks super sweet in her dreamy white room!

Miss Sophia is as happy as a clam with it and falls asleep to the twinkling lights each night...

{Sophie's Room}

 ...ruffles, book paper and gesso...these are a few of my favorite things.

When an older sister made the move upstairs, a shared room becomes {Sophie's Room}. It is
 sweet and white and so, so Sophie. A strict budget meant a careful planning, and lots of creative decorating.

The new {OLD} chippy iron bed instantly became the focal point of the room. Adorned with recycled bedding from Camille's room, a few new vintage pillow cases and an old grain sack, it is absolutely charming.

I was able to find interesting and unique art through the less obvious...a castoff frame that had lost its' luster makes a simple and unobtrusive center piece....paired with a milk glass lamp and a simple lampshade frame it is the perfect duo....the old primitive angel dolls keep watch over Sophie, day and night.

 Remember I mentioned I was working on a french market sign..well it is complete and I love it.

An old canvas gets a new facelift with vintage book paper and some beautiful hand made silky rosettes.
I had so many compliments on these, they are now for sale at {seventwothree}, along with coordinating vintage cigar boxes.

An old woven green footstool gets a coat of soft white paint and hand painted wording...a bit of muslin adds a touch of textile.

A tiny chair, a treasured and timeworn piece that belonged to my Angel son, gets a facelift with new fabric. {sending out this week for an upholstery job...will post better photos later}

An old ladder gets some white paint and a good sanding...I love the {galvanized rungs}.
Nice of the lightbulb to burn out just in time for photographing this room...which I must add at this point...indoor lighting stinks! I DO have a big flash and tripod, but I was lazy and in a hurry, so I did not take it out...the lighting is really much more beautiful than these photos depict.

Old yellow dressers are repainted...I love the way the detailed grooving on the fronts have a silver patina...

A few simple props add to the old world charm of the room...a vintage bassinet, an old picnic basket and a white enamel bucket, a shabby linen apron, are all sweet and simple pieces....

...simple tulle curtains complete the picture. {Sweet and Simple}.

Vintage Needlework Pillow

When a friend of mine received this awesome piece of vintage needlework for her birthday we all looked at it and said "pillow!" She had just finished her guest bedroom makeover and the vintage piece fit in with the color scheme perfectly. Take a look at the end result. Super sweet & SIMPLE!

I will try to link this up to some of my favorite parties this week, here! 

Collecting materials for the pillow was easy! We used muslin for the backing (it matched the color of the needlework fabric the best and seemed to be almost the same weight) and some old sheets that had this to die for ruffled edging...

 ...the piece of vintage needlework measured just shy of 18 x 18, which couldn't have been more perfect.

One of the standard pillow forms you can purchase is 18 x 18 inches exactly...

Using the square piece of needlework for a template, I cut the muslin for the backing, adding extra for the seam allowance. Then I cut the ruffled edge off of the sheets...

...Next I pinned the ruffle, needlework and backing all together. ( I cut my muslin to allow for a tuck in flap on the reverse side of the pillow...sorry I forgot to take a photograph of this.) Here are some photographs BEFORE I added a little something SWEET & SIMPLE!

..Lastly, I wanted to add a little dimension...( I just have too! ) ...and since I LOVE shabby flowers, I made one using some pretty white on white floral fabric and some beautiful, wispy organza I had in my stash. A touch of muslin to make a little rosette for the center, and a brooch clasp on the back so she can remove it from the cover for washing...(or wearing!)

To make the flower, I just stripped some fabric, ruffled each layer on the machine and stitched it all together! Super easy and the end result is sheer sweetness!
